Making the Case for Libraries
Library advocacy is one of Libraries for the Future’s most important missions.
Libraries for the Future has 14 years of experience in library advocacy. Members of our national network of passionate, committed library advocates participate in legislative briefings, speak publicly to focus attention on libraries, and work to inspire action and investment in libraries as one of the cornerstones of our democracy. Current Board and Council Members are leaders from many sectors—corporate, philanthropic, academic, nonprofit and governmental—who work to keep libraries high on the national agenda and at the center of our communities.
A three-part library advocacy initiative carried out by Libraries for the Future and generously sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has resulted in three groundbreaking publications to help advocates across the country make the case for libraries:
• Long Overdue, a national public opinion study on libraries sponsored by LFF and conducted by Public Agenda, whose results are both challenging and encouraging;
• Worth Their Weight: An Assessment of the Evolving Field of Library Valuation; and
• Act for Libraries, a library advocacy website designed to help all library advocates, from teens to trustees to town officials, strengthen their libraries and their communities.
Libraries for the Future welcomes everyone who cares about libraries to join its national membership.
